Writing for Geriatric Medicine, an author's guide.
Geriatric Medicine welcomes unpublished contributions. If you are interested in submitting an article, the following will be helpful.
Leading articles
Positioned at the front of the journal, these articles focus upon clinical/social/political/medicolegal issues or any other subject that is currently topical in the care of older people.
- word count: 450 words (one page) or 1,000 words (two/three pages)
- references: up to 8 references which should be numbered in the text (vancouver style) and listed at the end of the article, clearly numbered and in the order in which they appear in the text.
General feature articles
Subjects of interest include the holistic management and prevention of disease in midlife and beyond, in all therapeutic areas.
- Word count: 1200-1500 words
- References: upto 20 references which should be numbered in the text (vancouver style) as detailed above.
Both leading and general clinical articles should also have:
- A 70 word standfirst that both introduces and summarises the main points of your articles
- 4-6 keypoint sentences that accentuate important points
- The full name and address (including daytime phone and fax numbers) of the corresponding author
Figures/illustrations
We are keen to include tables, charts, figures, and photographs within your article which we are able to reproduce easily. These are not included in the word count. All figures/illustrations, etc, should be cited in the main body of the text and should be supplied with full table headings/picture captions. Obtaining permission to reproduce any images which have been published elsewhere is the author's responsibility, and a letter granting permission to reproduce should be submitted with the article.
Presentation
All hard copies must be cleanly typed with double spacing and wide margins on one side of A4 paper. Pages should be numbered. An electronic version of the articles should also be sent to the editor via the contact area or posted on a floppy disk in Word or text formats to the address below.
Approval
All articles are sent to two members of our Editorial Board for peer-review, and we aim to write with our decision and/or comments within one month of receipt of the article. Following acceptance, submissions may be edited to a suitable length and to comply with GM's house style. We are unable to predict a date of publication in the journal, but the corresponding author will be sent a first page proof of their article for approval approx 2 - 4 weeks before publication.
Copyright
Authors will be asked to sign an agreement transferring copyright to Medpress Ltd. All requests to reproduce or make available anything in Medpress publications - in whole or in part, in electronic or any other form, including translation - must be sent to the journal office (address on the right).
